9. Hell Night (1981)
Poor Linda Blair, first she was possessed, then she had to tap dance through Exorcist II: The Heretic but then she finally made it to college… only to be pursued by a maniac killer in a haunted mansion while wearing a chamber maid by way of Hooters waitress ensemble. Blair and three others are college pledges hoping to make it through a night at the haunted Garth Manor.
After the other students play some pranks on the would be brothers and sisters, it becomes clear that that they are not the only ones in the house. Hell Night sets itself apart from other slashers by trying to make a genuinely scary Gothic film. The kills, while gruesome, are only briefly seen. Thankfully Hell Night goes for scares over shocks which set it apart from its contemporaries.

Fantastic feature! Love it!
I’m now going to have to go out and hunt all of these movies down.
Good list, and MBV deserves the number one slot. But I’m surprised The Prowler isn’t mentioned.
I’m not sure if I should be concerned or not about the fact that I’ve seen several of these films. My Bloody Valentine definitely deserves the top spot.
what? no slumber party massacre???? tell me kids today wouldn’t love a killer with a drill attached to his electric guitar.
You have a picture of Cropsy from THE BURNING and you put it next to MADMAN. Nice try.
You have a picture of Cropsy from The Burning next to the Madman entry. Nice try.
