10 Forgotten Movies You Must See Before You Die

4. Weirdsville

A trippy, indie black comedy from the director of Empire Records, Weirdsville sank without a trace back in 2007; there was little to no marketing push whatsoever, with buzz living solely off word-of-mouth. It's the kind of thing that the slightly-odd guy you just made friends with at work would suggest you watch. The plot follows two Canadian junkies spending one night trying to pay back the money they owe their dealer and the many, many hiccups they encounter along the way. Scott Speedman plays Dex, the quiet, introspective one, while Wes Bentley - the funniest he's ever been in his entire career - plays Royce, the ideas man. The two have great chemistry, ably abetted by the appearance of Taryn Manning as mutual friend Matilda. Throughout the course of the night they find themselves in increasingly bizarre situations, starting with an attempt to rob an aged hippy (Matt Frewer!), and ending with being caught between a satanic cult and a troupe of medieval reenactment-obsessed dwarves. It's a hilarious movie - which actually carries with it a sobering look at drug addiction - that deserves to be seen and enjoyed at least once.
