10 Great 2014 Movies You Probably Missed

Sometimes the really great movies slip under the radar.

Under The Skin Scarlett Johansson When all's said and done it€™s been a pretty decent year so far for blockbusters, from effective and exciting comic book adaptations like Captain America: Winter Soldier and X-Men: Days of Future Past (although the less said about Amazing Spider-Man 2) through to new properties such as Edge of Tomorrow, not to mention a few surprising hits such as The Lego Movie, which exceeded practically everyone's expectations. Less talked about, however, are the many low budget, independent and foreign movies which tend to do the film festival circuits before appearing for a brief spell in your local art house cinema - if you're lucky - then disappearing into oblivion. Falling into the "blink and you'll miss them" category, all too often they slip under the radar of public notice and fail to reach anything like the kind of audience they truly deserve. Without the marketing clout of the big studios - and often lacking the mass popular appeal which is required for such exposure - these movies become like precious gems obscured by the more populist fare Digging through the archives for 2014 so far and there have been plenty of great movies which fall into this category - from intense character studies to extremely dark and bloody comedies, here are ten great movies released this year which you probably missed.
