10 Great Films Under 95 Minutes Long

You won't have time to finish your popcorn!

Alfred Hitchcock said, “the length of a film should be directly related to the endurance of the human bladder.” That’s obviously quite difficult to quantify. Whereas movie lengths were traditionally constrained by production budgets. That’s less of a concern now, particularly for big-budget summer blockbusters.

If you find yourself checking film runtimes prior to visiting the cinema and groaning when you see that new film is almost three hours long, then this list is for you. This is hardly a new trend, but 2019 had some particularly egregious examples: Avenger’s Endgame, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, It: Chapter 2, and The Irishman.

Runtimes also vary by genre: it’s not difficult to find a 90-minute horror or comedy, but anything more drama based tends to be longer.

The following list spans a variety of genres, so they’ll be something for everyone. Hopefully, somewhere amongst the recommendations you can find one or two films to add to your favourites.

10. The Monster Squad (79 Mins)

The Monster Squad is a group of pre-teens who meet to geek out about all thing’s monsters. They particularly idolise the classic movie monsters made popular by Hammer Film Productions. However, when many of these monsters prove to be real and begin wreaking havoc around the town, The Monster Squad needs to mobilise against them.

The film is a tongue-in-cheek romp, in which The Monster Squad uses their encyclopaedic knowledge of their enemies to battle against Dracula’s rival squad: a sort of horror themed Avengers comprised of The Wolf Man, Gill-man, Frankenstein’s Monster and - somewhat anti-climactically - a mummy.

All the monsters look great, even if they’ve all got a touch of the best-Halloween-costume-at-the-party vibe about them. Except for Dracula who looks like he just came from the office and grabbed the first costume he could find.

Dracula makes up for it though with a genuinely menacing performance. Duncan Regehr is great as the iconic vampire and chews the scenery every time he’s onscreen.
