10 Great Movie Characters Who Never Really Existed

10. Humphrey Bogart! - Play It Again, Sam

boggie play Wait, what? Wait a second, we can explain. Humphrey Bogart is a beloved symbol of an era, a living ode to noir and classic cinema. An embodiment of where cinema was back in the 1940's in its infancy. It's not surprising that contemporary movies and film-makers like to pay homage to classic stars like Humphrey Bogart. In Herbert Ross's satirical comedy Play it Again, Sam (1972) an apparition of ole bogey himself appears to guide and nurture a lost soul (Woody Allen) into his idea of a modern man. Allan Felix is a man lost in contemporary society who doesn't know how to be a man, how to meet a woman or charm her. His obsession with classical cinema, Casablanca (1942) in particular. Allan begins to hallucinate and imagine the image of his favorite star haunting him. His primary function is to help Allan adapt to the world and help him become Bogart's image of manhood. He offers golden nuggets of contextual wisdom, such as 'I never saw a dame yet that didn't understand a good slap in the mouth or a slug from a .45'. Oh Bogey. Jerry Lacy's nostalgic depiction as Bogart is incredibly authentic, and hilarious. Classic.
