10 Grim Movie Prisons To Put You Off A Life Of Crime

9. Fortress 2: Re-entry (2000)

fortress 2 ...and they did! Yes, the hilariously titled sequel refers to the fact that this time, the fortress in question is orbitting the earth. Altogether now..."Prisoners...in....spaaaaaaaaccccce" No intestinators this time, they are so 2017, now it's straight into the brain with behaviour modification devices, something Apple are probably already working on I imagine. And if you really mis-behave, they let you take some exercise 'outside the walls' so to speak - although this is brilliantly countered by Lambert with the cunningly improbable survival technique of 'holding his breath'. Yeah, take that one basic science. Those Men-Telists have an extra little torture trick too, in the form of 'The Hole', an area where you are trapped and exposed to the mighty power of the sun. Burning flesh, screaming, regret, lasting psychological damage, it's a bit like a stag-do in Magaluf. Again, the prison is filled with scary shouty bald men, people in vests, laser cannons and - because it's now around 2027 - artifical intelligence. Here's hoping it doesn't malfunction in some way, and let the prisoners escape eh? Ahh...

I'm a Westcountry exile now living in Yorkshire with lovely wife and cats (also lovely). I'm a big fan of films, robots, timetravel, and films about timetravelling robots, as well as lots of other action, sci-fi and comedy. I'm currently trying to write a sitcom that doesn't involve robots, and I also blog nonsense on timolsky.blogspot.com. Thanks for taking the time to read my stuff, and feel free to comment.
