9. The Incredibles

Were it not for Pixar's wonderfully knowing pastiche of 1960s superhero, spy and adventure movies, this top 10 would have been a comic book movie list. But the fact that The Incredibles hasn't got a source just makes its place all the more impressive.
It's a nostalgic delight, built on Brad Bird's genius eye for kitsch and authentic reference points (something he also brought to the ridiculously undervalued Tomorrowland). The ideas involved - of superhero registration and accountability - basically preceded both the MCU and the DCEU by years, such was the film's maturity.
Obviously, this being Pixar, the writing is great, the characters flawless (including a truly great villain) and the world-building is spot on. The sequel can't come quick enough.
