10 Highly Anticipated Movies That Just Aren't Happening

9. Joss Whedon's Serenity 2

SerenityDescription: The crew of the Serenity, two men light, continue to explore the reaches of space. Dodging Reavers and The Alliance, our Browncoated heroes head wherever the money, the danger, and the fun are. With River taking the role as Pilot, Simon and Kaylee FINALLY getting dirty in the engine room, and Jayne still somehow scheming to overthrow (yet totally support) Mal's position of leadership, trouble can't be too far behind. Why It's Not Happening: Time. More specifically, it's been eight years since Serenity and Joss Whedon has been involved in so many projects after the show's untimely demise and unsuccessful resurrection. Also, in no small part, Cabin in the Woods and The Avengers skyrocketed Whedon's profile into mainstream success. This success lead to Whedon's signing on to a deal with Marvel and Disney in order to shepherd along Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Univers, which shall end with him directing The Avengers 2 for 2015. If Joss Whedon is so booked that he can't set some time aside to make a Star Wars picture, what makes you think he'll be able to revisit this oft cherished property? The Last Word?: As of 2007, Joss Whedon had left the hopes of a sequel to the DVD performance of Serenity. Meanwhile, his cast went onto other projects and had varying degrees of success. The greatest of which, undoubtedly, was Nathan Fillion. Revisiting the matter in 2012, Sean Maher (Simon) said that Whedon, unable to fathom why, says he can't make another Firefly movie. If You Really Want To See It...:...start reading the Dark Horse comics. There's plenty more stories in the 'Verse, and some of them have old friends who are now dearly departed playing a front and center role. You'll want to pay special attention to The Shepherd's Tale and Float Out (written by none other than Patton Oswalt), as they are directly relevant to the point at hand.
