10 Huge Movies Already Confirmed For 2020 And Beyond

Believe it or not, there's a movie currently set for 2115...

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3
Marvel Studios

With each passing year, the movie release calendar becomes more and more competitive.

Just look ahead to 2018 - Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story all come out within the same 30-day window, and the fact that three of the year's biggest releases are all clumped together gives you some idea of how densely populated the blockbuster scene actually is.

Because of this, studios are looking further and further ahead for the perfect release date to stake their claim to. As a practice, it might seem like they're jumping the gun a bit, but in reality, it makes sense; why not get ahead of the competition and bag a prime release slot before everybody else does?

This means that even far-off periods like the 2020s are already saturated with movie releases, from Avatar's numerous sequels to the latest Marvel and Indiana Jones offerings.

So while the next 365 days looks exciting enough for the time being, who's eager to know what they'll be spending their money on in the year 2024? If you do, you're in the right place!

10. Indiana Jones 5

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3
Paramount Pictures

Release Date: 10 July 2020

Once again starring Harrison Ford as the iconic treasure-hunter, the as-yet untitled fifth Indiana Jones movie will reunite the star with director Steven Spielberg, who helmed the first four instalments.

Currently, Spielberg is deciding which movie to make first: this one, or a remake of the 1960s classic West Side Story, with the latter said to be his passion project.

His decision isn't likely to impact Indy 5's release date (Disney have already moved it once, and they won't want to do so again), but the sooner it gets made, the sooner we'll start hearing news about casting and plot.

Speaking of the plot, little is known in that department - but we do know that Shia LaBeouf's Mutt will not be returning, courtesy of screenwriter David Koepp.

That's probably for the best, considering his monkey-swinging antics last time around.
