Considering how much money there is in the superhero movie business right now, it's little surprise that the productions tend to be tightly controlled down to the most minuscule factors. After all, why take risks when literally hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake? With that in mind, it might surprise you to learn how some of the best and most memorable comic book movie moments weren't actually in the script at all.

Given how it's easy to picture a screenwriter agonising over writing some of these amazing moments, the fact that they were thought up during shooting is a testament to the truly collaborative potential of blockbuster filmmaking...

We'll kick things off with surely the most pivotal and game-changing ad-lib in the history of the MCU.

Considering that Iron Man started shooting without a fully completed script, it's little surprise that director Jon Favreau encouraged his cast to improvise.

To that end, Robert Downey Jr. came up with the unforgettable "I am Iron Man" closing line on the spot. Given that it kick-started the MCU dispensing with the notion of secret identities altogether, it's incredible that something so seismically important wasn't part of the original plan.

Of course, Favreau could've simply not used the take if Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige had objections to it, but given how played-out the idea of superhero alter-egos felt even by 2008, it was a smart move which gave the MCU far more freedom in the long run.
