10 Incredibly Dumb Sequels You Won't Believe Almost Got Made

9. Ferris Bueller's Day Off 2: More Off-er

012612_ferris If you even have an ounce of "cool" in you, you'll know that Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a movie written and directed by John Hughes, that the movie stars Matthew Broderick as the eponymous character, and that you should like it. Set over the course of one day, the plot follows Ferris Bueller - who is apparently the most likeable kid in school - as he leads his super hot girlfriend and "going insane" best friend Cameron around as they bunk off school. There are hijinks, a poignant art gallery sequence backed with a track by the Smiths, a blundering teacher who dedicates his entire life to trying to catch Ferris, and a scene where Ferris becomes the hero of a town parade, because that's how this guy works when he's not confined to school. Skip ahead to 2007, when a speculative script by writer Rick Rapier - Ferris Bueller 2: Another Day Off - was suddenly the talk of the town (well, for, like a week or two). Rapier's sequel took place 20-30 years after the events of the original movie, with our hero now rich, wealthy, and pretty happy, but hankering for another day off, 'cause he's Ferris Bueller. Though that plot certainly isn't the worst one we've ever heard, trying to replicate a movie as iconic as this one seems like an exercise in futility. Especially when you consider that Matthew Broderick hasn't played a "cool" character since... well, Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
