5. Grendel - Beowulf
The Legend: Descended from Cain, the original murderer, Grendel is a monster who emerges from his lair when he is bothered by the noise and drunken revelry in Herot. So he visits the hall and kills and eats several of the kings guards. Asides from being the biggest buzz kill of all time, Grendels terror lasts long enough that people hear about it all the way in Geatland and most of Herot is abandoned. I couldnt wait to see the havoc he would cause on the big screen.
The Failure: After his initial entrance, Beowulf soon learns that Grendel is hurt by loud noises. He yells at Grendel who promptly shrinks and turns to run. The legendary monster is turned into a whimpering child the moment you scream at him. You would think that this wasnt something you needed Beowulf to figure out, and a movie that was supposed to be filled with several action sequences proceeds to a middle act of Angelina Jolie playing a succubus.
