Over the next few years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will expand significantly as Marvel Studios tells stories not just on the big screen but the small one as well thanks to the launch of the Disney+ streaming service. That means we'll be spending more time in this shared world than ever before both with characters we're familiar with and many we currently are not.

With so many new adventures in the works, it goes without saying that there are a lot of rumours out there about what comes next in the MCU. Comic book fans are understandably desperate to learn more about the studio's secretive plans for the future and there are a lot of reasons to be excited if these new details are anything to go by.

Now, though, we've sifted through the nonsense and phony Reddit posts to bring you a breakdown of must-see reliable rumours which range from intel on storylines and characters to plans for Phase 4 and beyond as a whole new era begins for the MCU. We're living in a post-Avengers: Endgame world and while one chapter has ended, this next one may very well be even better.

Marvel Studios has won the trust of fans over the years but things are about to get seriously nuts...

10. Doctor Strange 2 May Include Alternate Versions Of Familiar Faces

Doctor Strange revealed the existence of a Multiverse and Avengers: Endgame doubled down on that by exploring alternate timelines and explaining what sort of ramifications one minor change to them could result in (the Loki TV series, for example, will explore a timeline where the God of Mischief never died and remained a villain).

According to MCU Cosmic, though, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will introduce, "some known MCU characters but in very different ways." In other words, that means we could end up visiting other worlds where familiar heroes and villains turned out very differently.

With that in mind, the reason for that animated What If? series is starting to become clear as it gives Marvel Studios the chance to explore some of those worlds, minus the big budget a live-action version would demand.

Oh, and with Spider-Man director Sam Raimi now in talks to direct the Doctor Strange sequel, don't be surprised if this leads to Tobey Maguire reprising the role of the web-slinger for a brief cameo appearance! This could even be used to explain the introduction of characters like the X-Men and Fantastic Four.
