10 Massive Movie Predictions For The Rest Of 2016

The Joker = bit part.

Suicide Squad The Joker
Warner Bros.

2016 in film has already served up its share of surprises: Deadpool exceeded just about everyone's box office expectations while Batman v Superman fell distressingly short, Michael Bay released a surprisingly good film, 10 Cloverfield Lane came out of nowhere and blew everyone away and...the last Divergent movie performed so badly the final one is going straight to TV.

With a little less than half the year to go, there's still plenty to consider, from the remainder of summer blockbuster season through to the inevitable Oscar madness that dominates the last few months of any year. With many risky studio movies set to roll out over the end of the summer in particular, the industry will learn important lessons from how these movies perform, both for better and for worse.

From films that are going to make box office history to those that might have an "interesting" experience with critics, as well as as some spoiler-related guesswork, here are 10 movie predictions for the rest of 2016...

10. Ghostbusters Fails To Gross $400 Million Worldwide

Suicide Squad The Joker
Sony

The new Ghostbusters reboot has been one of the year's big box office questions, given its huge $144 million budget and the massive controversy surrounding its production.

The film released to a solid if unremarkable $46 million opening weekend, claiming second place just behind The Secret Life of Pets. With the potential for the curiosity factor to quickly taper off, combined with the film not getting a release in the now-crucial Chinese market, it's entirely possible that Ghostbusters won't even break the $400 million mark worldwide and be a modest success at best.

It really depends on whether or not the movie has "legs" as many of director Paul Feig's movies do, and manages to keep finding an audience for weeks, but the smart money is on the film grinding to a halt around the $350-380 million mark.
