Under the Skin, which stars Scarlett Johansson as an alien disguised as a woman who traverses the Scottish countryside in order to find lowly men to prey upon (seriously), is the kind of sci-fi movie that leaves you totally speechless the moment the end credits begin to roll. As soon as it cuts to black, you're thinking: "What the hell did I just watch?"

Indeed, Jonathan Glazer's arthouse sci-fi masterpiece - based on a novel by Michel Faber - throws all kinds of questions up in the air... and then refuses to give any proper answers. There are multiple scenes that are - at once - mind-bogglingly weird and disturbing. There are others that defy explanation, because there are all about imagery and atmosphere.

But Under the Skin is more of an experience than it is a film with logical progression; to fully appreciate the picture, it's essential that you let go and allow it to wash over you. For all its bizarre and totally confusing moments, it sure makes for a truly mesmerising watch.

It is a sad, scary and incredibly melancholy film - not to mention that its barmy plot, which refuses to embrace anything resembling a "linear narrative," will outright melt your brain.
