The opinion of most in the film world seems to be that Marvel's enormously ambitious cinematic undertaking, collectively referred to as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been a colossal success. Though it might seem from the outside that the various characters and worlds have effortlessly slotted together so far, it's obviously taken a tremendous effort from President of Production at Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, and is unlike any other franchise in the history of film. That said, we fans - especially comic book fans - are never happy, and there's always something to nit-pick, even when a film delivers as firmly on its promises as Joss Whedon's The Avengers did. Here are 10 opportunities that the MCU has missed to date, and sadly, only some of them can really be rectified now...
10. Hawkeye's Character Development - The Avengers
Easily one of the worst things about The Avengers was Hawkeye; he goes from having a minor (
very minor) cameo in Thor, to becoming a zombie at the start of The Avengers, having a single meaningful scene with Black Widow, and then getting one or two badass moments in the Battle of New York. Actor Jeremy Renner even had the balls to call Joss Whedon out on how Hawkeye was portrayed, noting, "I'm not the character I signed on to play." This kick-started many rumours that Hawkeye would either be excluded or re-cast for The Avengers: Age of Ultron, though as it stands, it seems as though Renner will be sticking around in the role. Joss Whedon has, to his credit, accepted the wide criticisms, and claimed that the character will get more to do second time around, noting, "He did get possessed pretty early by a bad guy and had to walk around all scowly for most of the movie so now it's nice to actually have the character there and see him interact with the other guys."
