10 More Depraved Films That You've Never Seen

10. Alucarda (1978)

url-4 Alucarda is a Mexican horror film which has often been compared to both The Devils and The Exorcist. A little known B-movie, it is slowly gaining cult acceptance among lovers of horror and bizarre cinema. Justine is a young orphaned girl living in a Mexican convent. Her world is turned upside down by the arrival of Alucarda, another young orphaned girl, and the two form a very close bond that is almost sexual in nature. The girls go to play in a nearby forest and - you guessed it - run into some gypsies. They open a casket and unleash a demonic force which possesses both of them. They then go on to wreak havoc in the convent. So what makes this film depraved, exactly? Well, young teenage girl lesbian action, a demonic orgy, vampirism, charred bodies coming to life, a nun getting her throat bitten out, flagellating nuns, satanic rituals... The girls wander about a lot in the nude and there is a lot of shouting which you might think is a bit hysterical and overdone. People who like this movie actually prefer it over The Devils and The Exorcist. As a corrupt piece of sleaze, I enjoy it for what it is - it is atmospheric and moody and, ultimately, very entertaining.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
