Most Controversial Film: Last Tango in Paris Much of the controversy that surrounds the famed Italian director comes from one movie alone - Last Tango in Paris. The film, infamously features a graphic sex scene that features anal sex and various foods. Aside from the lengthy and extremely explicit scene that had Conservative commentators up in arms, a great amount of controversy resides over Bertolucci's treatment of star Maria Schneider. Schneider believed she was sexually humiliated on set and that Bertolucci exploited her greatly, not telling her about the graphic sex scene in detail beforehand. Marlon Brando also felt exploited by Bertolucci and refused to speak to him for 15 years. Schneider's belief that she was violated and her recent death have led the controversy surrounding the film and the director to live on more emphatically than most. The director in February of this year said that he felt guilty for treating Schneider the way he did, solidifying all of the criticism, protest and controversy that has never gone away.
