1. Jar-Jar Binks – Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
“Mesa cause one, two-y little bitty axadentes, huh? Yud say boom de gasser, den crashin der bosses heyblibber, den banished?”- Jar Jar Binks
The above profound quote and video should highlight all the issues with this character. He is an annoying, and frankly racist character that only offends. The audience is given no reason to like him, he causes chaos everywhere he goes and he ruins every scene he is in by his presence in it.
He is not funny in any way so the character has no purpose. His shtick is quickly worn out, and by the end of Episode 1 you are exhausted at just how stupid this character is. In the sequel he is merciful trimmed out and rarely shown. The madness however continues, Binks is the most incompetent member of his species, and yet becomes a Senator on Coruscant. What? Why?
The screen time of this character is a total waste and unnecessary to the film as a whole. The Phantom Edit proved this. He is still the sole thing that embarrasses me about being a Star Wars fan. I cannot justify him, nor will I. This is as bad as the “Bat-Credit Card” in Batman & Robin.

Almost completely agree with this list, Jar Jar is the most horrific thing ever done to a sequel that ruins the original, and that’s coming from a guy whose favorite film is Jaws and most hated is Jaws The Revenge.
Although I have to say the ‘I’m Han Solo’ dance was very catchy.
I don’t get why people think Vader shouting “No” is so cringe worthy. He just awoke to learn he’s a shell of himself, trapped in a life support suit for the rest of his natural born life and that he killed his pregnant wife. Seems like a fair enough reaction. Plus, while he may be wearing the suit, this is basically still the Anakin we’ve known in 2 and 3, he hasn’t transitioned into the Vader from the original trilogy. I think his reaction makes it more believable that Vader and Anakin are the same person. “Little” Annie’s parting sentence to his mother doesn’t bother me either, seems like something a little kid would say to his mother in that situation. It also sets up that he has issues and attachments that could lead him down a dark path. Padmé’s you’re breaking my heart line doesn’t bother me either but I agree with the rest. Apart from all you’ve rightfully said about the Greedo thing, his missing at so close range makes it seem like Han’s only alive to play his role in the films thanks to ridiculously dumb luck. And by far the worst is Leia kissing Luke. Made all the worse if you’re watching the movies in chronological order. Maybe that’s something Lucas should have changed when he was messing around with the original trilogy!
This list sums the cringe worthy moments pretty well.
The one thing I’d have added was in ROTS when Padme and Anakin are on the balcony of Padme’s place and Anakin is all “No, tt’s because I’m so in love with you.” lmao
I’m not defending it but what should Vader have said at that point instead of “Noooo!”… a genuine question, would love to hear an alternative line, if any, because I honestly don’t know how that scene should have played.
I have always believed Anakin should have been 16 years old in Episode I and be played by the same actor across all three prequel films, it would have been better for the audience to see the emotional journey as played by a single person.
Most of the ‘romance’ scenes in Episode II are unspeakably bad, but if Lucas had brought in a great outside editor to that film, most of the offending scenes would hopefully have been either cut altogether or severely truncated and tightened to make them both necessary to character development and just plain bearable to watch… but the “you’re breaking my heart” scene in Episode III is a genuinely moving scene that really works in my opinion, Natalie Portman just gives it her all, and when she realizes that Anakin and Obi-Wan are about to kill each other, she momentarily tries to intervene and it ultimately spells her doom, there’s lots of bad scenes in the prequels, but that scene isn’t one of them.
There are really no cringe worthy moments from the original films. Of the 2 mentioned: one is just random, and Luke and Lea’s kiss is more funny than anything, b/c she was trying to make Han mad, and ends up kissing her brother. that’s what anger leads to, bad choices (sorta the point of the entire series).
No the list of cringe worthy moments in star wars goes like this:
1. the Phantom menence (almost every scene)
2. attack of the clones (almost every scene, and the title)
3. revenge of the Sith: (maybe minus a few scenes…maybe)
4. almost every new scene in the re-released originals
5. ?holiday special (i can barely recall it actually..so maybe not)
and, well that’s about it. there ain’t ten, there’s 3 really long cringe worthy moments in star wars, and the new edits.
Believe what you want, but these films do not need to be defended: bad writing, bad acting, bad story-telling, inconsistencies with the movies they’re founded upon… (this list could go into infinity)
Someday, someone will write an actual prequel triology – it should have been 3 movies that blew your mind in scope and psychology- following the path of Anikan’s mind into Vader. they blew alright, they definately blew.
Find the articles entertaining though. good fun.
A lot of bad and awkward dialogue came from Padme (and that nursing robot who declared she was dying from a broken heart). The worst moment for me was Anakin announced he killed all the Tusken Raiders and Padme doesn’t seem that horrified.
