10 Most Disappointing Movies Of 2019 (So Far)

What It Promised

Well, it should have been a swing for the fences, because this was Fox's last great hoorah before Disney clean the slate and bring the mutants to the MCU. (Yes, New Mutants is yet to come, but that's not a main timeline movie, so shush your lips.)

This should have been a spectacular farewell, based on one of the most enduringly popular comics arcs of all time, which could take advantage of Sophie Turner's Game Of Thrones successes. Even with loud concerns about the production journey and rewrites, there was enough to suggest it would at least be watchable.

But Really...

It's just completely wrong-headed. The script - which was butchered when the final third was retooled completely - is awful, character motivations are silly and the dialogue feels like someone's been reading a book on how to make T-Shirt slogans.

The effects are good and Michael Fassbender's performance is great, but there's almost nothing else to recommend about this sad end to Fox's main X-Men series. It's joyless, seeks to be "dark" in place of actual substance and it misses ALL of the charm you expect from these movies.
