10 Most Disappointing Stephen King Movies

6. Dreamcatcher

Dreamcatcher promises a great deal: the script is co-written by Oscar winner William Goldman (Misery) and the director is Lawrence Kasdan (Body Heat), leading you to expect a thoughtful and classy picture. Instead, we get the first $70 million movie about an invasion by “sh*tweasels” from outer space.

If you’ve ever wanted to see Morgan Freeman yelling “I came here to kick some !*$%” while at the controls of a helicopter gunship, you’re in the right place. Among the other jolly sights are an alien snapping at Timothy Olyphant’s private parts while he writes his name in the snow and Jason Lee and Damien Lewis trying to decide if the man using their latrine is in fact dead. He is, which makes him the perfect audience for this movie.

On top of all this, there’s an odd approach to characterization. In the first 2 minutes, Thomas Jane’s character is shown to be suicidal, but oddly, it’s never so much as mentioned again. Was it intended as a throwaway gag? Or had he just read the script?
