10 Most Ridiculous Oscar Snubs Of All Time

9. Ben Affleck - Best Director (Argo)

Yes, we've all been fuming about it over the last few weeks, but Ben Affleck being snubbed for a Best Director nomination for his work on Argo hurts like Hell. The guy has really turned his career around, going from starring with former fiancee Jennifer Lopez in the execrable Gigli to directing Best Picture-nominated films all in the space of a decade. One can't help but feel that there's still some Academy prejudice against the guy for his former reputation, because his landing a Best Director nomination was considered one of the sure things of this year's Oscars. It just goes to show, rarely is there truly a sure thing. It's an increasing source of embarrassment for the Academy, given that post-snub, Affleck has collected a slew of other award wins for his direction, such as the Golden Globe and the BAFTA, making the Oscars seem even more out of step with not just audiences, but their own industry peers as well. Affleck will surely have more Oscar glory awaiting him in the future, but this is one of its more egregious and ridiculous snubs in years.
