10. Return Of The Living Dead 3 (1993)
The zom-rom-com has become quite the subgenre in recent years, following the success of Shaun of the Dead (almost ironic, considering how ineffectual and curiously chaste the central relationship between Simon Peggs Shaun and Kate Ashcrofts Liz turns out but we all know the real love story is between Shaun and Nick Frosts Ed). Love stories torn asunder by death, but then brought back together via living death, have been seen in Life After Beth, Burying the Ex, Clinger and (in a slightly different manner) Warm Bodies and a couple more similar tales will come up in this list. However, the pinnacle of zombie romance was reached all the way back in 1993 in Brian Yuznas Return of the Living Dead 3. Ignoring the earlier films in the series almost completely, it follows Gen-X lovers Julie and Curt (Melinda Clarke and J Trevor Edmond) who plan to run away to escape her domineering army general father but a misguided jaunt into Daddys top secret military science lab results in Julie getting an accidental dose of 2-4-5 Trioxin, the gas responsible for the zombie outbreaks in the first two movies. Its your standard Romeo and Juliet tale, only with Juliet turning into a zombie, and ultimately giving herself a terrifying yet highly alluring makeover with broken glass, nails and other sharp bits and bobs.
