10 Most Underrated Movies Of 2015

6. Unfriended

Unfriended is a found-footage horror movie starring a bunch of teens that get killed off by a malevolent force from their past. If that doesn't sound like the most generic piece of tat imaginable then horror must have hit a new low. Except Unfriended is actually a lot of fun. For 99% of its runtime confined on the desktop of teenager Blaire as she and her friends are terrorised over Skype, Facebook and IM chats by the ghost of a former classmate they may or may not have had a hand in driving to suicide, it's a tense watch that manages to excite in the face of a rather clichéd plot. The way the film conditions you to treat each notification sound with a sense of dread is particularly chilling - using Skype for work chats just became a lot more perilous. Its villain is still an I Know What You Did Last Summer spirit who can inexplicably control technology and the characters are dispatched in a very predictable order, but the sheer commitment to the idea means things never flag. Even the murders are delightfully creative. The first kill, which features the fat kid (because of couse) blending his own arm under the influence of a spirit is the best horror kill since You're Next.
