10 Most Underrated Original Songs In Movie History

9. "Cakes" By Kool G Rap, Featuring The RZA (Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqusruQDCVk Jim Jarmusch closed out a pretty spectacular 3-for-3 in the 90s with 1999's "Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai", which gave us the great imagery of Forest Whitaker sharing ice cream cones with kids and spitting "Rashoman" quotes at mobsters. As a follow up to "Dead Man", Jarmusch was really setting a distinct style in place. "Ghost Dog" happens to function as a representation of a lot of the bullet points in the RZA's own philosophy of life, so it's fitting that he was put with the task of scoring the film. "Cakes" falls under the aforementioned category of a song featured as a single on the film's soundtrack that had no real presence in the actual film, though there is a great music video included on the DVD. But the quick-paced, Curtis Mayfield sampled rap song does not exactly scream "money maker". "Cakes" seems to fit in with a much darker soundtrack because it really embodies the movement of Whitaker's character and how he rolls in and out of situations without getting flashy or explosive on anyone. Plus, it's great demonstration of the two rappers flowing between one another.
