10 Most Underwhelming Movies Of 2014

How is Benedict Cumberbatch playing Sheldon Cooper an Oscar contender?

As the various awards bodies look back over 2014 to decide who to deliver their oh-so important awards to, it's worth stating that the previous twelve months were a pretty impressive year for cinema. Whoever takes home the golden baldie at the Oscars next month (Boyhood, surely?), the real winners in 2014 were audiences. Oh sure, last year offered up tat like any other, but when a movie flew, it soared. The inordinate success of Guardians Of The Galaxy doesn't really need to be stated again, but even putting aside Marvel's sci-fi romp last year offered up a wide range of films that had everyone in awe. Not bad given that Pixar were MIA. Still, it wasn't all Nightcrawlers and Babadooks roaming cinemas in 2014; there was also a fair share of utterly underwhelming pictures that, while not ostensibly bad, in the face of undying critical praise ending up feeling rather middle-of-the-road. Today come and take a look at an alternate take on ten of 2014's critical darlings; movies that are a world away from making a worst of the year list, but certainly don't deserve to be treated like cinematic milestones. The rules for this list are simple - films that got a Fresh rating on RottenTomatoes (over 60% critical approval) that were utterly underwhelming. Alright, let's go. And a warning ahead of time - it's going to get ugly.
