10 Most Woefully Lame Video Nasties

10. Zombie Creeping Flesh (1980)

Bruno Mattei, the king of Italian hack moviemaking, would have to end up on this list at some point. Zombie Creeping Flesh is actually a rather fun zombie movie, but a hack job all the same - pilfering ideas from other, much better movies, it deserves to be among the lamest video nasties ever made. First of all there is the soundtrack by Goblin, not an original, but purloined from Romero's Dawn of the Dead and Luigi Cozzi's Contamination. Then there is the endless stock footage of African natives dancing and monkeys swinging from trees. And then there is the four man SWAT team who storm an embassy at the beginning of the movie, echoing Romero's SWAT team scene at the tenements in Dawn of the Dead. Mattei himself filmed under the pseudonym Vincent Dawn, which tells you exactly where he was coming from.
