10 Movie Adaptations That Clearly Hated The Source Material

10. Super Mario Bros.

This entire list could have been made up of video game adaptations, as Hollywood has always been kinda embarrassed about the material these movies are based on or, at the very least, incapable of understanding why audiences liked it in the first place.

Case in point, Super Mario Bros. the movie. Don't get me wrong, there are elements to like here, but they all stem from how bats**t insane the adaptation is, and how much the filmmakers got wrong (though Bob Hoskins - who is unfathomably cast as the Italian Mario - is genuinely funny).

It's difficult to sum up how totally the studio misunderstood the franchise Super Mario Bros. was based on, but just know that it has more in common with Terry Gilliam's Brazil than it does the actual Nintendo games.
