10 Movie Adaptations You Already Know Are Doomed To Disappoint

Racial conversations aside, Ghost in the Shell has "disappointment" written all over it. It's not that fans of the somewhat incomprehensible and infamously confusing manga series want this to be bad - it's more that, instinctively, they know how badly Hollywood has treated similar adaptations in the past (ahem: Speed Racer).

Put simply, Ghost in the Shell tells the story of a cyborg cop - here played by the very talented Scarlett Johansson - who targets hackers and cyber criminals in a dystopian future.

Those who adore Ghost in the Shell do so because of its complexity, a concept that Hollywood doesn't have a particularly good relationship with. Throw in the fact that Rupert Sanders, a relatively inexperienced director with just one film to his name - Snow White and the Huntsman - directed the thing, and it's easy to be concerned.

Had somebody like David Fincher or Darren Aronofsky found themselves at the helm of this adaptation, Ghost in the Shell fans would have rejoiced. But going by the material we've glimpsed so far, this looks like it's going to shape up to be a visually impressive action movie with fewer of the cerebral elements that an adaptation of this kind deserves.
