The final Star Trek movie set in The Next Generation's continuity sees Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) facing off against an imperfect clone of himself, Shinzon (Tom Hardy), who was created by the Romulans.

After abandoning their original plan to install Shinzon as a Federation mole, the Romulans left him to die as a slave. However, he survived and was eventually able to launch a military coup in the Romulan Empire, after which he plots to destroy all life on Earth.

Shinzon also attempts to lure Picard into his grasp, as the flaws of the cloning process now cause him to age rapidly, and only a transfusion of Picard's blood can stop it.

In the final showdown, however, Picard manages to fatally impale Shinzon and escape to safety, before Data (Brent Spiner) dutifully sacrifices himself to save the Empire.

Nemesis may be one of the lesser Trek movies, but there's a sure trashy appeal to seeing everyone's favourite Captain shove a metal strut through a demented clone of himself.
