10. Dark Universe

The Franchise: Universal's Dark Universe was a planned franchise intended to reboot a number of the studio's classic monsters, such as Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein and The Mummy, within a shared cinematic universe.

What Happened?: This past summer's Tom Cruise-starring The Mummy was a considerable critical and box office disappointment, with reports quickly emerging that Cruise apparently had "excessive" input on the final product.

By November, the Dark Universe's prime creative forces, The Mummy's director Alex Kurtzman and The Fast and the Furious' Chris Morgan, had both packed their bags, leaving the prospective series without a captain.

Even though the likes of Johnny Depp and Javier Bardem are tentatively attached to appear in planned movies, it seems clear that none of these films are going to happen, and for all intents and purposes, the Dark Universe is dead after releasing just one movie.
