10 Movie Heroes You Didn't Realise Were Total A-Holes

Look a little deeper and you'll find the line between hero and villain can get a little blurred...

There is a famously fine line between hero and villain. Often it comes down to utilitarianism: if a character does something bad, but it results in something good happening, such as a life being saved, then all is good. If however, a character does something bad, and it fails to result in something positive, well, they're a villain. It's all about the greater good. In recent years it's become trendy to have movie characters who don't fall comfortably into either camp. Batman may be fighting bad guys, but often his methods are less than moral. Similarly Bond often acts like a prat, but we forgive him because he's a spy fighting foreign terrorists, so he's allowed to overstep the mark now and then. Famously Walter White started out in one category, and turned into a monster as Breaking Bad progressed. But what about characters that aren't supposed to be complex in this way? From time to time a hero is supposed to be straight-down-the-line heroic, inherently good in every way, but sometimes these characters don't hold up so well to scrutiny. These are the characters who are intended to be a goody-two-shoes, but whose actions will have you thinking again next time put a DVD on.
