The horror genre is more prone to reboots and rehashes than any other, a point proven by the fact Hollywood is about to remake Japanese fright fest Ju-On... again.

The Asian horror classic was repackaged for a Western audience in 2004 as The Grudge, with Sarah Michelle Gellar in the lead role and original director Jakashi Shimizu at the helm. This in turn spawned a sequel in 2006.

Following the success of his indie chiller The Eyes of My Mother, filmmaker Nicolas Pesce has been tasked with rebooting the series in an attempt to recapture the creeping horror of the Japanese original.

Little is known about how Pesce's take on The Grudge will differ from the previous versions, but the involvement of horror master Sam Raimi bodes well, even if he's only attached in a producer capacity.
