10 Movie Remakes You Didn't Know Were In The Works

9. Masters Of The Universe

Masters Of The Universe
Warner Bros.

The original: Cannon Films aimed high but shot a bit wide of the mark with this 1987 fantasy adventure from director Gary Goddard based on the popular Mattel toy range and TV cartoon series. Dolph Lundgren played the mighty He-Man opposite Frank Langella as the villainous Skeletor, in a story which saw their galactic conflict brought to a small middle-American town.

The remake: Directorial duo Aaron and Adam Nee (Band of Robbers) recently signed on to call the shots on a new Masters of the Universe for Sony, working from a script by David S Goyer.

Should We Be Excited?

This one's been stuck in development hell so long, it's hard to keep track of the various incarnations that have almost come to pass. John Woo, Jon M Chu and McG have all been linked as directors at different times with a slew of different scripts coming and going.

Clearly the material lends itself to a big screen blockbuster, and after many complained the Cannon movie deviated too far from the source material, it'll be nice to see Eternia and its colourful characters properly brought to life. Still, one can't help feeling that the Thor movies may have beaten them to the punch bowl somewhat.
