10 Movie Roles That Traumatised Actors

9. Jamie Foxx (Ray)

When starring in a biopic based on the irreplaceable Ray Charles, Jamie Foxx had some changes to make to fully represent the internationally acclaimed soul musician. Dropping over 30 pounds to match Charles' frame, he soon discovered weight wasn't the only thing he was expected to lose for the duration of filming.

Notably, Ray Charles was blind from the age of seven, and to get the full effect of his disability, movie magic was - excuse the pun - nowhere to be seen for Foxx. He was coerced into the blindness of his character rather literally, rather than hiding behind Ray's iconic sunglasses.

Having to wear prosthetic eyelids to match those of Ray Charles' glaucoma-damaged optics, Foxx suffered what he describes as having 'his eyes glued shut' for up to 14 hours a day. Unsurprisingly, the actor's nerves became fragile having his sight taken away unnecessarily, causing him to have panic attacks for much of the early filming schedule from claustrophobia-like symptoms.

And, if that wasn't bad enough, crew members would often forget Foxx was wearing the prosthetics under the glasses, abandoning him on set on his own whilst he struggled with the impaired vision. Poor Jamie Foxx.
