The Spoiler

The not-so-shocking revelation that the initially villainous Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) end up betraying primary antagonist Ultron (James Spader) and teaming with the Avengers to stop his assault on Sokovia.

How The Trailer Hid It

Marvel Studios have proven themselves masters at digitally manipulating trailers by this point, though at the time of Age of Ultron's release, it was still a relatively scarce practise across the industry, and one which was employed masterfully here.

Though the film's trailers featured plentiful footage of the final battle, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were digitally removed from the clips to keep their presence in the third act a "secret" (even though many fans certainly guessed it).

The most blatant trailer clip in this regard is Thor's (Chris Hemsworth)'s cry to Ultron, "Is that the best you can do?", where there's obvious negative space between Captain America and Thor, which no cinematographer worth their salt would allow to happen.

It's likely that the success of duping the audience here is what prompted Marvel Studios to use the tactic more regularly to keep fans on their toes.
