10 Movie Trailers That Totally Misled Audiences

8. Drive

What The Trailer Says: You know that movie The Fast and the Furious? Yeah, we've basically made that but put Ryan Gosling in it; it's got the same staples - frantic car chases, robberies and death-defying stunts - but just looks a bit prettier. The Truth: Drive is actually, like many of Nicolas Winding Refn's films, a combination of an art-house aesthetic and mainstream Hollywood narrative, making for a bizarre mix that casual audiences really don't know how to deal with. The film features minimal dialogue and lots of long pauses and glances, but it's also got some superbly-shot car chases, and SPOILER ALERT Christina Hendricks having her head blasted into a bloody stump by way of a shotgun. Still, the action is pretty piecemeal overall; the film is far more interested in building an atmosphere, which caused many to dismiss the trailer as patently dishonest, with one woman even filing a lawsuit against the filmmakers for lying about the content of the film.
