As exciting as movie trailers can be, it's important never to lose sight of the fact that they're part of a studio's marketing cycle above all else.
At the end of the day, they're designed to get your butt in the cinema by any means necessary, and sometimes, they arguably overstep their bounds by flat-out presenting a different experience from what paying customers expected.
To be clear, not every movie in this list is bad or even disappointing, but in each case the end result was nevertheless a far cry from the movie as initially sold.
With entire shots, scenes and potentially iconic moments reworked or even removed entirely, each film turned out distinctly different from the narrative, style and/or tone presented in the marketing.
In most instances this was indicative of a troubled production that saw a studio desperately scrambling to put various fires out, though occasionally it was a result of irresponsible marketing itself, or even an unfortunate unforeseen incident which emerged during post-production.
Whatever the ultimate reason, though, these 10 films evolved substantially from the film promised by those early trailers...
