Although nobody was expecting it to be a classic, Snakes on a Plane still failed to live up the buzz surrounding its release. One of the first in-production movies to become a genuine internet phenomenon, David R. Ellis' glorified B-movie just couldn't live up to the ridiculousness promised in the title.

Back in the days before viral marketing was the ubiquitous promotional tool it is today, Snakes on a Plane was everywhere. There were musical tributes, merchandise, fan fiction, fan-made trailers and parody videos. Even Samuel L. Jackson's most iconic line in the movie originated from the online fan-base.

Given the way it had infiltrated the public consciousness, many were expecting Snakes on a Plane to become a box office success. While it did manage to turn a profit and earn $62m against a $33m budget, many of the people that had championed the movie in theaters elected against paying to see it in the theater. Just weeks after it had been released, the massive pre-release buzz was nothing but a distant memory.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
