9. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
Charlie Kaufman is one of the greatest screenwriters to have ever lived and Eternal Sunshine is one of the best screenplays ever written. The way that Kaufman was able to take both the romantic comedy and traditional science fiction movie and rework both of them at the same time is truly amazing. The film has one of the most original ideas in cinema history and two brilliant performances by Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. The plot revolves around the love of Joel and Clementine which starts out very simple then progresses very naturally. Clementine erases Joel from her memory through a professional service which causes Joel to then have to go inside of his own mind to get her back. Michel Gondry's direction is a marvel to watch and the story itself resolves in such a creative and organic way that it makes Eternal Sunshine an incredibly rewarding watch.
