10 Movies Too Bloated For Their Own Good

8. Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Kingsman: The Golden Circle is the typical blockbuster sequel that decides 'more is more', and then runs the very things that made the original so fresh into the ground. There is no denying that Matthew Vaughn's follow-up boasts plenty of style, but by the time the credits roll you feel pummeled into submission rather than overly-entertained.

At a way-too-long 141 minutes, The Golden Circle is over-indulgent to say the least and dials virtually every aspect of the first movie up to eleven, with decidedly lesser returns.

Remember Mark Hamill's one-scene role as 'token celebrity cameo'? Now you have Elton John essentially playing a supporting part in a hit-and-miss running gag. Did you like how Kingsman ended on a buttsex joke? Well here's an entire scene based around fingering, and not the instrumental kind. Samuel L. Jackson's villain was squeamish? Julianne Moore's antagonist literally turns people into burgers.

Even bringing Colin Firth back from the dead and using amnesia as an excuse is just infuriatingly lazy writing, so here's hoping that the inevitable third installment can recapture some of the original's subversive charm and avoid the pitfalls that blighted the vastly inferior sequel.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
