6. Cheating Is Fine As Long As The Sex Is Great - The Bridges of Madison County
The Bridges of Madison County is about two siblings, Michael and Carolyn, who arrive at their deceased mother's (Meryl Streep) to settle her estate, only to discover that their mother had an affair with a photographer named Robert Kincaid (Clint Eastwood) for 4 days in 1965. The pair had planned to elope, though their mother stopped it at the last minute so as not to impact the lives of both the children and their father, Richard. The film doesn't moralise her affair, though perhaps it should? It comes off as a little unsavoury that only in death, free of reparations, she tells all to her kids, how she was a bored housewife who only stayed with the family out of a sense of loyalty, but really wanted to be off gallivanting with this Lothario. Her final request, to have her ashes scattered off the same bridge as Robert's, is supposed to seem nothing less than romantic, but frankly, it's just a bit tacky.
