10 Obscure Movie Easter Eggs You Probably Missed

9. Peabody And Sherman - Back To The Future

Back To The Future Peabody
Fox

Back To The Future has so much fun with its time travel that there's a plethora of little in-jokes that show just how on the ball director Robert Zemeckis was - knocking over a tree turns Twin Pines Mall into Lone Pine Mall, Marty accidentally gives Goldie Wilson the idea to become mayor, etc. But we're not dealing with any of those today, but a little outside wink to one of Zemeckis' favourite cartoons.

The farmer who owns the land with one/two pine trees is named Peabody. Now that just sounds like a good name for a old, curmudgeonly farmer, but is actually there to build an incredibly well hidden in-joke - the family's son, who mistakes Marty and the DeLorean for an alien invasion, is called Sherman.

Obviously a reference to time-travel cartoon Mr. Peabody And Sherman, it's incredibly well hidden. Sure, you can easily get the Peabody nod, but the kid's first name is only given in the end credits - you need to be really eagle-eyed and self-torturous to spot it.
