The movie reboot is one of the most frequently complained about trends in contemporary Hollywood, particularly when executives take classic franchises and trundle them through a slick, PG-13 prism, leaving behind a lukewarm slurry that's nothing like the original project. All eyes are on the upcoming Robocop reboot, which has been met with heavy skepticism by most fans of the original, and seemingly a relative amount of indifference by everyone else. That's because though there hasn't been a Robocop film in over 20 years, the legacy of the original still holds firm, and this new take appears to completely betray that. With some fine tuning, a new Robocop might've worked, and I think we were all interested when Darren Aronofsky was attached to direct, but like so many reboots, it'll be a miracle if it's even half-way watchable. That said, what about those franchises that have simply run their course, but aren't prized enough that they couldn't be rebooted successfully? I think it's safe to say rebooting characters like the T-800 (The Terminator), Riggs and Murtaugh (Lethal Weapon) and The Man with No Name (The Dollars Trilogy) will almost certainly result in audience revulsion, but with these 10 characters, for a multitude of different reasons, it just might work.
