10 Oscar Worthy Performances Of The 2000s That Didn't Get Nominations

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind 1 There always has been and always will be Oscar snubs, but the 21st century seems to be running absolutely rampant with them. Some actors give the performance of their lives, only to have that performance forgotten because the Academy decided it wasn't "worthy" enough as they instead nominate the same old, same old. Maybe there are some actors who don't fit the Academy archetype, or maybe they just miss some movies entirely. The following list chronicles 10 magnificent performances that could have pulled in Oscars, but for some reason didn't. Had it been a different year, a different director, or a larger box-office total these actors may have received the accolades that their performance merited.

10. Owen Wilson - Midnight in Paris (2011)

Gilpender Resized

The Role: In Woody Allen's best work so far this century, Owen Wilson plays writer Gil Pender who's come to Paris with his fiancee (Rachel McAdams, in one of her better performances) and his future in-laws. After walking the Paris streets one night, he discovers a way to reach his idea of the Golden Age--1920's Paris where he meets artists such as Ernest Hemingway, Salvador Dali, and Picasso. Why It's Oscar Worthy: Owen Wilson produces a quick-witted, charming performance that showcases his abilities both as a comedic and dramatic actor. Wilson has shown flashes of acting greatness in films such as The Darjeeling Limited, but his performance in Midnight in Paris is on a level that some actors never reach. He's able to hit all the proper rhythms that comes in a Woody Allen script, nailing every joke and nuance.
