10 Outrageous Ways Movie Trailers Lie To Us

9. Advertising Scenes That Aren't In The Movie

There should be punishments for movie studios that allow trailers to be cut featuring scenes that don't show up in the final film. I know, I know, a scene may be excised during production after a trailer has been made, and the trailers are rarely cut by the same folk making the films, but this happens far too often, and it proves frequently irritating. Case in point, The Bourne Ultimatum's trailer features an awesome-looking scene (visible at 1:50 in the above clip) in which Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) appears to dive out of a moving car that collides with another. It looks super cool, but it's not in the final cut of the film, and this left me totally bemused when I came out of the cinema. It happens far too often with gags in comedies, and not just with entirely omitted scenes, but also ones with alternate takes being used, such as The Joker's delivery on many lines being different in the final film, which kinda sucked given that we were all used to quoting him with the inflection from the trailer.
