As awards season rolls around, we take stock of the films we were given over the past year. There are some good films, which we celebrate, and bad films, which we mock and/or grieve. But without a doubt, the most frustrating creature is the bad film masquerading as a good film. And somehow, everyone buys into it except for us. It gets award nominations, makes a killing at the box office, and critics are calling it the best film they’ve seen in the past ten years. But in our heart of hearts, we know the truth: it’s just no damn good.

I like to think that I’m a good judge of quality when it comes to film. And to be fair, a pretty substantial portion of the time my views tend to fall in line with the great huddled masses. But every once in a while, a film comes out that everyone else LOVES, and I think it’s a steaming pile of crap.  Is there something in this film I’m just not seeing? As my mother is wont to remind me, different strokes for different folks, and other sentimental stuff like that. But I know the truth. Sometimes people just like terrible movies, and we’re the only ones who can see them for what they are. The Emperor’s New Clothes, if you will.

But anyway, here are the ten movies that came out in 2013 that I believe to be vastly overrated.
