10 Painfully Long Movie Marathons You Have To Do At Least Once

9. The Lord Of The Rings - 558 Minutes (Theatrical) Or 680 Minutes (Extended)

New Line Cinema

The Films: The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, The Two Towers, The Return Of The King

Just How Long? 9.3 Hours (Theatrical) Or 11.3 Hours (Extended)

Why You Have To Try It: This is the one that everyone of my generation has mulled over doing at least once. The Lord Of The Rings are a defining part of blockbuster cinema of the early noughties, proving fantasy epics can work, giving a grown up alternative for kids too mature for Harry Potter.

Given how open ended Fellowship and Two Towers are, it'€™s already impossible to watch the series without going from start to finish, so why not bite the bullet and do it all in one go? Anyone who€™'s came late to the party with Game Of Thrones should be used to a ten hour fantasy run through, so this should be pretty easy for serious fans.

There€™'s an added challenge here of using the Extended Editions. I'm not really a fan of them as films in of themselves, but when doing something as obsessive as this, it€™'d be rude not to. Of course, you could also throw in The Hobbit triloy and have a full-on Middle Earth gorge, but there's a very real possibility of death by exposure during such a marathon.
