10 Reasons Solo Is The Worst Star Wars Film To Date

9. Most Of The Talented Cast Are Wasted

Solo carries on an unfortunate trend in Star Wars movies: wasting talented actors.

Liam Neeson, Natalie Portman, Terrence Stamp, Brian Blessed, Andy Serkis, Max von Sydow, Benicio Del Toro, Felicity Jones, Forest Whitaker... it's a long and depressing list. Now, we can add Thandie Newton, Paul Bettany, and Jon Favreau.

Thandie Newton plays Val, Tobias Beckett's wife. Newton is a great actress, but here all she gets to do is look moody in a few scenes and then meaninglessly sacrifice herself. Jon Favreau voices Rio Durant, a member of Beckett's crew and he gives a very charming vocal performance but unfortunately that character dies far too quickly too.

Paul Bettany plays the villain and, compared to the actually awesome villains from the Prequels, he's extremely forgettable. He does his best with what he has, but Dryden Vos has little screen-time and is too under-written and un-intimidating to really work. As a result, Bettany makes no impact.

As everyone expected, Donald Glover steals the show as Lando Calrissian but he's arguably underused too. He doesn't appear in the film as much as he should've done, but looking on the bright side he'll probably play Lando again.
