Having been lucky enough to attend the star-studded premiere of The Dark Knight Rises last night, I can gladly tell you that Chris Nolan’s epic conclusion to his Bat-trilogy is awesome.
After a few hours of reflection on the auteur’s grand, emotional and exciting swansong, I’ve put together 10 reasons as to why The Dark Knight Rises will have you picking your jaw up from the floor.
But first, if you haven’t seen the film yet I implore you not to read on. Chris Nolan intends his audiences to go in knowing as little as possible, and TDKR will be a far richer experience if you go in unspoiled.
Final warning: if you’ve not seen the film and you choose to read on, you are going to ruin it for yourself – make no mistake.
10. Nolan Breaks The 3rd Film Rule
How many trilogies maintain their quality into their third installment? Very few, if any.
Christopher Nolan has proven that with vision, resistance to trends and studio pressure, fully-formed characters and – above all else – putting the story first, you can pull off a great final film to close off a trilogy.
People will still probably say that the trilogy peaked with TDK, but I’d say the final installment is as good as its predecessor. In fact I might, on my own, in the middle of a dark night whisper: “The Dark Knight Rises is better than The Dark Knight.”

LOVED the film.
just one point though, interested to see if anyone else heard it.
Big Hans Zimmer fan, but there was a melody that popped up occasionally through out the film and it sounded a bit off to me. It was kind of like that classic stabbing/psycho thing.
Saw it last night as well, i thought it was an amazing film and and was the perfect ending to the trilogy.
One debate which is bound to take place about the film is whether or not it is better than The Dark Knight and so far when thinking about this I have decided that it is difficult to compare the two as they are quite different. I think The Dark Knight is a lot scarier as the unpredictable actions of the joker are not out of the realms of probability however this film requires a little bit more disbelief as Bane is portrayed as some kind of superhuman enemy with unimaginable strength and therefore a little but more unbelievable but at the same time The Dark Knight Rises is a lot more intense as it goes from a very calm and steady opening first act and then it quickly ramps up the pace in typical Nolan fashion featuring some of the most jaw dropping scenes ever that make you really want to cheer for Batman and his sacrifice.
Agreed, it’s like comparing apples and oranges. The timing of The Dark Knight was perfect, it captured the zeitgeist.
I couldn’t believe how pacy TDKR was.
Not sure I heard it, but I intend to buy the soundtrack so I’ll listen out.
Let’s not kid ourselves about Robin. The 3 Robins (not including obscure ones) are Dick Greyson, Jason Todd, and Tim Drake. Blake in this film goes on to become Batman (like Terry did). How much do you want to be Nolan never had the ‘Robin’ line in there but Warner demanded they implement the name so that casual viewers can go OMG Robin. Despite the fact, Blake isn’t ‘Robin’ and doesn’t become ‘Robin’. The only connection is that they are people who ended up working under Bruce. I can’t even say they are all proteges because Blake is most likely on his own.
I disagree completely. Robin has always been Batman’s youthful, hopeful, and cunning, back-up and partner. John Blake filled this role, without wearing a bright yellow cape or having a code name, but in a more unique capacity. Revealing his name to actually be Robin is just a fun way of acknowledging him to be just that, THIS Batman’s Robin. I don’t believe that line to be any sort of studio mandate at all, just a clever device on the part of writers.
Are you serious? If they named him with any of the Robin’s names, it would be too obvious, that’s why he has a different name, to give the surprise in the end.
I don’t think Damian is an obscure Robin. But I agree with your point SJP.
thank you chris nolan for a wonderful great epic ride.
p/s: It’s just me but I think it would be great if John Blake’s name is change to Terry McGinnis…and then…BAM!! we’ll have ourselve a possible BATMAN BEYOND-nolan style!
I think its great and if john blake truly is robin then i think they were introducing him as the new batman or the nightwing persona, either or great MOvie
John Blake is probably more akin to Tim Drake in that he just figured out Bruce was Batman.
